WHAT IS THE BEST AREA TO STAY IN MIAMI?

HOW DO I GET AROUND IN MIAMI?
Miami is a very spread out, car-dependent city with remarkably few public transportation options. The best way to get around is by renting a car, or taking uber. However, if you plan to stay in a few select areas, you can get away with using public transportation. See our blog for more tips.
WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE? IS IT ALWAYS HOT AND SUNNY?
Although Miami is generally hot and sunny year round, there are certain seasons that can be chilly or when it rains a lot. The best time to visit Miami is in the winter, from December-March. This is also "high season" so expect to pay higher prices and we recommend booking accomodations a few weeks in advance. April-May are great "shoulder months" in which there are fewer tourists, and still generally has great weather. Do expect a bit more rain during this period. Summer (June-August) in Miami his HOT and HUMID with frequent afternoon rain showers. Hurricane season runs from June-November, so do keep an eye on the forecasts as your trip gets closer. September-November is a great time to visit as well, with low prices and less rain.
IS MIAMI DANGEROUS?
Like any large city, you should be aware of your surroundings. Most violent crime in Miami is drug or gang-related and limited to specific neighborhoods. Petty theft is the most common crime and can be avoided by not leaving valuables unattended, keeping wallets secure in zippered or buttoned pockets, and keeping an eye on purses at restaurants, the beach, and on public transport. Also, do not accept drinks from strangers in bars, as date rape drugs are occasionally an issue.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I BUDGET FOR MY TRIP?
Miami has the entire spectrum -- from multimillion dollar yaht rentals and high-end clubs, to local caribbean joints and street food, your trip is what you make it.
Expect to pay anywhere from $50-$350/night for accomodation. $50/night will get you a 1 bedroom airbnb 15 mins from the beach. $350 will get you a nice hotel in South Beach on the water.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT MIAMI?
The best time of year to visit Miami is the winter-- December-March, because it is sunny, not too unbearably hot, and rarely rains. It is also the most expensive time to visit. Come in April-May or September-October for excellent weather with lower prices. Just have some backup plans ready in case of a few rainy days.
